The DTSSAB is allowed to offset some of
the administration costs associated with providing the
National Child Benefit Reinvestment Strategy.
The Boys and Girls Club of Timiskaming
($6,600.00)
This program is supporting different
group/activities that involves children in the Kirkland Lake
community such as Annual Craft Fair, Breakfast for
Learning—School Snack Program, Coats for Kids, Community
Garden, Kidsport, Learning Centre, Sports and Recreation
Library, Teen Dances and Wayne Gretzky Foundation Hockey
Equipment Drive.
Centre de Santé Communautaire du Témiskaming
- Food to Grow On
($20,000.00)
This program has successfully established
breakfast and/or snack programs in 17 schools across the
District of Timiskaming.
Centre de Santé Communautaire du Témiskaming
- Kids on the Block ($15,000.00)
This program was introduced in 2003 and
uses puppets to educate and heighten awareness of school age
children on diverse topics such as drugs and alcohol, abuse
prevention, bullying, disabilities and a wide variety of other
subjects.

Pour Enfants Timiskaming Child Care Centre - Toy Lending
Library ($5,000.00)
This program allows parents and children
in the District of Timiskaming to borrow free of charge, toys,
games, and puzzles. The
Toy Lending Library is located in the Haileybury premises.
Connections
($5,000.00)
This program is a stay-in-school
initiative aimed at keeping youth, 13 to 18 years of age, in
school and supports them while they complete their Ontario
Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
Day Care Health & Safety Programs
($12,251.00)
This program supports the different Day
Care throughout the District of Timiskaming in supplying new
equipments to ensure the children’s safety.
The Pavilion Family Resource Centre -
Summer Program and Self Esteem Group for Children ($5,000.00)
The Pavilion Family Resource Centre
introduced two new programs, this year:
Self-Esteem Group for Children where
children learn to communicate, feel good about themselves,
enhance their positive self-image and learn coping skills.
Children’s Summer Program where
children are educated on healthy lifestyles through physical
activity, healthy snacks and personal hygiene.
Timiskaming Child and Family Services
- Baby, Not Me, Not Now ($50,000.00)
This program has been funded since 2000
and focuses on improving parenting skills, reducing teen
pregnancy and reducing child abuse through education.
Timiskaming Child and Family Services
- Daddy and Me Program (20,000.00)
This new program was introduced this year
and focuses on increasing awareness on the importance of
fathers in the family structure.
Timiskaming Health Unit - Health
Babies / Healthy Children ($70,000.00)
This program has been funded since 1999
by the DTSSAB. Continued
funding, has allowed the Health Unit to provide district-wide
Well Baby Clinics and home visiting programs to high-risk
mothers and babies.
