The Provincial Rent Bank Program
was designed to help seniors and vulnerable Ontarians avoid
losing their residence. It provides financial assistance
to address short-term rent arrears and threat of eviction by
providing outstanding rent directly to the landlord on behalf
of the tenant.
Under this program, the DTSSAB Ontario Works Program
administers the Housing Grant Fund Assistance. The
Housing Grant Fund Assistance enables the immediate provision
of financial assistance to all eligible persons to help pay
for rental arrears, as well as the costs of security deposits
(e.g. last month’s rent deposit).
- Assistance
is limited to payment of arrears and security deposits.
- Assistance
is issued in the form of a grant without a requirement to
repay.
- The
maximum assistance per household is equivalent to 2 (two)
months’ arrears or security deposits as required.
- Recipients
are entitled to receive Housing Grant Fund Assistance only
once within a two year period.
Applications for this Assistance are available through the
local DTSSAB Ontario Works Program offices. The Ontario
Works Program will verify the budgetary need and other aspects
of the applicant’s circumstances and will determine if:
- the
applicant has made all efforts to access other available
resources including money, assets and credit and has been
unsuccessful; and
- failure
to provide the Housing Grant Fund Assistance will result
in:
- a
danger of losing housing services; or
- homelessness
Applications for Housing Grant
Fund Assistance will be processed within 1 (one) calendar day
of the date of request.

Works Program.
