Apply for Housing
There is a wait list for rent-geared-to-income, Affordable and Market housing. To add your name to the waiting list you will need to complete the application form either on Paper or Online, submit it to the office in your area or to the office of any Housing Provider. Your name will be placed on the waiting lists of all the Housing Providers and locations you choose. The Coordinated Access Centre and application form will answer many questions about the process. Tenants are generally selected on the first come, first served principle. Some applicants with unique circumstances will secure a special priority or urgent status designation. These designations must be requested and are assigned based on the documentation provided and separate from the regular waiting list. Co-operative Housing Providers also seek applicants who have expressed a willingness to assist in the functioning and managing of the co-op by becoming involved in various committees or the Board of Directors.
The waiting list is lengthy and offers of accommodation are made only when a vacancy occurs. Depending on the demand in a particular area, the wait may be several years. We encourage households to apply as soon as possible and to as many Providers and locations that they really want to live-in. We caution that limited selection of location will increase your wait. Your applicant information must be kept current. If there is a change in income, family composition or address you should notify our office immediately.
The Housing Services Program and all Housing Providers operate in accordance with the regulations of the Housing Services Act 2011 and all legislation and municipal by-laws. Non-Profits Housing Providers and the Social Housing Program are governed by the Residential Tenancies Act and approved By-laws.
Offers for a housing unit will be made by either the Housing Provider or a DTSSAB Housing Services office. Offers of rent-geared-to-income subsidy will not be made to former tenants/members in arrears with any Housing Services Provider. Applicants who owe arrears may enter into a repayment agreement if the Housing Provider wishes to do so. If a copy of the signed agreement is provided to the Central Wait List Administrator for Timiskaming and regular payments are made your application will remain on the waitlist in chronological order. Should payments be missed the application will be cancelled. An offer of accommodation will not be made until the arrears have been paid in full.

One 1-bedroom apartment at 480 Broadway Street in Haileybury
Two 1-bedroom apartments at 25A Tweedsmuir Avenue in Kirkland Lake
Three 2-bedroom apartments located at Pollock Avenue in Kirkland Lake
Please Indicate on your application whether you require a wheelchair accessible unit or if any other modifications are required for you to live independently.
Supportive housing helps people live in their own apartments, with assistance. Various agencies in our District offer these services so you receive help with everyday things like preparing meals, bathing, dressing, and medication. Any supportive needs will be discussed at the time an offer is made.
When you complete the application and it is received by our office, the application will be reviewed for completeness. If information is missing, you will be required to provide it within 14 business days. Your application will not be added to the waiting list until it is complete.
You will be advised in writing within 30 days whether you are eligible for housing. If you are not eligible, you will be advised of the reason. You have the right to appeal the decision and you must do this within 21 business days of receiving the letter. If you are considered eligible, your application will go on the waiting list for the Housing Providers and sites you select in chronological order.
